ODES & fragments, the Brooklyn-based duo of saxophonist/composer Chris Mannigan and percussionist/conductor Danny Tunick, has been exploring the depth and breadth of the saxophone/percussion repertoire since 2001. The pair's musical interests and pursuits cut brutish and unpredictable swaths through the hierarchies of rock, jazz, folk and through-composed musics, yet align in a shared love of the rehearsal process and a commitment to the development of a repertoire with global reach. Recent works commissioned/premiered by the group include the minimalism of Dan Joseph (Underground Suite), the maximalism of Drew Krause (Force of Habit, included on the Chen Li Music release Pluralities), and the jazz-rooted maximal minimalism of Rich Woodson (Trio for Marimba, Saxophone, Piano, and Taped Percussion).
